Directions To The Hotel
If you are coming from Portsmouth, when you get to
into the town from the slip road off the M27, note that on the left is a large sign
showing the symbols to follow to get to the various ports. Keep in the left
hand lane at this point to view the symbols. You should follow
the signs and symbols for the 'Isle of Wight Car Ferry'
If you get
to the Portsmouth ferry early or late, you will be put in a holding
area and then put on the next available ferry.
From
the Lymington To Yarmouth Ferry
You can
turn left at the top of the hill from Yarmouth to Freshwater and
head towards Norton Green. This cuts off the corner and Freshwater
but you have to be careful not to head off towards Newport. The road
from Freshwater to Niton is a fast road, but can get covered in
thick patchy sea mist. When you get to Niton you have to stop
at the junction opposite the Spar Shop. Do not go straight ahead
as
you will end up in Whitwell and then Ventnor (See below).
Turn right
at this junction to St Lawrence and then turn right down Old Park Road after about
2 miles. Follow Signs for The Isle Of Wight Glass Studio and The
Hotel.
Via
Newport, Godshill and Ventnor
From the E Cowes or Fishbourne ferry port
head to Newport. Pass through Newport keeping in the left hand lane
to follow signs to Sandown. After about 3 miles turn right to
Rookley and Shanklin at a large filter junction. Follow this winding road
for several miles traveling though Rookley to Godshill. Just
after entering Godshill turn
right for Ventnor on a sharp left hand bend in the road. Follow this road to
Whitwell. If you miss this turning you can continue and head for
Wroxall. (See below on how to arrive from Wroxall.)
Half a mile after passing through
Whitwell and
just after a double bend, you will see a turning to the right for St
Lawrence. Follow the steep hill down past the old station at the
bottom, ignoring the first sharp turn to the left. After 200 yards turn left down
Spindler's Rd. At the bottom go straight across following signs
for the Isle Of Wight Glass Studio and the Hotel.
If you missed the turning after
Whitwell or came
via Ryde and Shanklin, then head into Ventnor. At the only traffic
lights in town turn left and follow the main road to St Lawrence. As you come into
St Lawrence, turn
left after the St Lawrence Inn, following signs for the Hotel
and Isle Of
Wight Glass Studio. We are to found at the bottom of the lane.
Via
Ryde, Sandown, Shanklin and Ventnor.
This is
the safest way as it avoids any country lanes but is not very
scenic. There are speed cameras just after Ryde and just Before
Shanklin. At the height of the season you are likely to hit
unpredictable jams in Sandown and Lake. Do not turn off the road as
there is no alternative route.
As you
leave the ferry port, turn left at the main road and head for Ryde.
In Ryde follow the signs for through traffic which should help you
bypass the main town centre. If you get lost here or want to see the
sights, then head for the beach and follow the Esplanade road,
keeping the sea on your left. If you follow the main road up the
hill you will rejoin the road to Sandown and Shanklin. As you enter
Shanklin, take the road forking to the left signposted for Ventnor,
which avoids a slow set of lights. Follow the road into
Ventnor.
At the
only traffic lights in town turn left and follow the main road to St
Lawrence. As you come into St Lawrence, turn
left after the St Lawrence Inn, following signs for the Hotel
and Isle Of
Wight Glass Studio. We are to found at the bottom of the lane.
Via
Fishbourne, Wooton, Arreton, Wroxall and Ventnor
This is
the most scenic route and the quickest as it avoids all major town
centres.
As you
leave the ferry port turn right at the main road and head for
Newport. After you have crossed the estuary at Wooton turn left at
the Spa Shop by the lights and head for Arreton and Sandown. Note
that you pass Robins Hill on this road ( One of the Major
kids Attractions ). Continue to head for Arreton
until you pass Arreton Manor and reach the main road between Newport
and Sandown.
You must
turn right at this junction and then after a couple of bends take
the 2nd on the left after about 300 yards. Follow this road to the
end and you will find yourself on the Newport to Godshill road. Turn
left here and turn right towards Ventnor and Whitwell as described
above when you reach the Outskirts of Godshill 400 yards after a
hump back bridge. See above (Via
Newport, Godshill and Ventnor)
for the rest of this journey.
Follow the steep hill down past the old station at the
bottom, ignoring the first sharp turn to the left. After 200 yards turn left down
Spindler's Rd. At the bottom go straight across following signs
for the Isle Of Wight Glass Studio and the Hotel. We are to be found at
the bottom of the lane.
Please Take Care - Remember on the Isle Of
Wight - the roads are narrow and anything can be round the corner.
